Blockbuster was once an entertainment empire, with over 8,000 stores globally. Now, they’re down to just one brick-and-mortar store in Bend, Oregon. It’s the world’s last Blockbuster and, because of that, it has become an icon for the movie die-hard community.To keep the brand alive and continue building their incredibly engaged audience, we developed a communications platform called "Blockbuster. 'Til The Bitter End."
Our first work to launch the new platform was a Super Bowl commercial. But it wasn’t just a normal Super Bowl ad. With a very limited marketing budget, we created a big game commercial in the way that only the last Blockbuster could: on VHS. The ad ran hyper-locally at the store’s Super Bowl party, but the story became news everywhere on the planet.
